Mom’s Heart Shaped Meatloaf Recipe

Since Mother’s day is Sunday I thought I’d share a silly meatloaf recipe to show mom that you love her with food, by making her something delicious and easy. I made it simple enough that my family could do it too! Hint hint, nudge nudge.

The biggest thing about meatloaf is that you don’t want it to be too dry. So you want to make sure that the meatloaf holds the moisture in. I like to think it’s the egg that helps with that. Also I like to cook the glaze on it for half the time so I think that also has something to do with it.

Ingredients

1 lb Ground Beef
2 tsp Dill Weed
1 Tbs Minced Onion (Dried)
1 tsp Pepper
1/2 c. Instant Oats
1 Egg

Glaze:
1/2 c. Ketchup
1 Tbs & a pinch of Brown Sugar (Optional)

Instructions

Preheat 350 degrees.

Mix all ingredients in a bowl, mix the glaze ingredients separate, and set aside. My dad always taught me to just throw it all in and mix it with your hands, so that’s how I do it still.

Use hands to form it into a heart, place in the middle of a casserole dish, or a glass cake pan.

Bake for 20-25 minutes, add the glaze, sprinkle a pinch of brown sugar over the top of it, then bake for another  15-20.

Let sit for 15 minutes after because it will be very hot.

Here is a photo of before I baked this, it cracked a ton when it was done this time. The last few times it hasn’t but I didn’t take photos. So tip to prevent cracking, make the mealoaf slightly more flat.
